Wild Pig (Boar), Baby   Wild Boars are obviously the ancestors of our domestic pig but did you know that there are several varieties and they are said to be one of the world’s most widely distributed animals?

A Wild Boar sow gives birth to a litter of between two and nine piglets and these little ones are carefully hidden for the first few days in a grass-lined nest dug out by their mother.  For around three months they generally stay close to her but will eventually rejoin their mother’s  group and take up life amongst other adult boars and piglets.  They then become independent within one to three years depending on their species. Baby boars have attractive and distinctly striped hair but colouration and definition again depends on type.  However,  by the time they are half grown they take on the grizzled appearance of the adult Boar.  Our youngster has no stripes so he probably feels very grown up! 

It is said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder and this little chap will certainly win the affection of pig lovers everywhere.  He stands square on, focuses his beady piggy eyes on you, and asks the question, “when are you going to take me home?”
