Llama, Lady (Dam)A female llama, known as a dam, begins to breed when she's about a year old. She's able to have one baby, or cria, a year until she's about 15 years old and almost always gives birth to one baby at a time. Most llama births take place between the hours of 8.00am and 12.00 noon which is during the warmer daylight hours. This may increase cria survival rates by reducing fatalities due to hypothermia during cold Andean nights.
